We are a fairly new British wargames company specialising in producing high quality 18mm wargames figures. We produce our own ranges of Black Hat Miniatures, Gladiator Miniatures (formly produced by Gladiator Games) and distribute Coat D'Arms acrylic paints.

Black Hat Miniatures is run by Mike Lewis, who has been a wargamer for many years and may be known to some through DragonLords RPG fanzine from the 1980s. He also writes (and occasionally sells) Science Fiction and Fantasy stories (see www.mikelewis.info for more details).

Why 18mm?

There has always been a certain amount of "scale-creep" in the size of wargames figures. The old 25mm figures have crept up in size to the new 28mm scale - many of which are actually 30-32mm in size.

Our figures are large scale 15mm as produced by Old Glory, Eureka, AB, etc. The larger scale of 18mm gives the opportunity for a more detailed sculpt and makes the figures easier to paint - as any fans of Anthony Barton's excellent AB Figures' Napoleonics will attest.

Like a number of manufacturers, including Eureka Miniatures and Brigade Games, we have simply decided to call our figures the scale that they are: 18mm.
